A friend of mine gave me Martha Nussbaum's latest book, Frontiers of Justice. Especialized in classics, Nussbaum who's maiden surname is Craven (she's divorced but kept the husband's name), is one of the most respected philosophers from the United States. I quote not from the gift but from another book of hers and where she criticizes Cicero's concept of justice. The quotation (regarding current issues) called my attention for controversial. Some may think that she is naive or unrealistic, not me:

“… To promote justice requires material aid… Maintaining a system of global justice that would be effective in dealing with torture, cruelty, unjust war, etc. involves massive expenses; meeting these expenses requires redistribution of resources from richer to poorer nations… Caring about basic human rights means spending money, not just fine talk.”
